Just when you think you've seen everything, a bride comes along with a wedding outfit that knocks you for six!!

That's what happened back in October when I arrived at Langley Castle Hotel in Northumberland to photograph the wedding of Jennifer & Stuart. Now, Langley is a great venue for any wedding, but is particularly suited if there's a touch of Gothic romance about, and Jen and Stuart certainly had that…..in spades!!

I first met them at one of Langley's wedding fairs. I think it's fair to say Stuart was less than enamoured with the idea of having a photographer at their wedding, but they both liked my work and we had a long chat……several months later, here I was on their big day, having been prepared by Jen for "something very different!!" Boy, was she not joking!!

Jen's dress was purple; and not just any old purple, but Cadbury's purple!!!! It was also made from the heaviest, most luxurious velvet I've come across - so heavy, it broke the wooden hanger it came on!! And if that wasn't enough to throw me, just check out her shoes. Jimmy Choos? Nah - common as muck!! Manolo Blahnik's? Everyone's got 'em mate!! How about 6" stiletto black leather high lace Doc Marten's?!! Check out the pictures - truly a one off!!

Fortunately Jen has the looks and the personality to carry this combo off. And we were (almost) lucky with the weather. OK, it rained a wee bit, but this was October in Northumberland…what do you expect? Actually, the overcast and low light really allowed me to shoot some fab atmospheric shots of Jen's dress - I'm really pleased with the results.

Oh yeah, and Stuart and his brother Matt chimed in with their own 'Docs' and frock coat outfits.
